2017 League of Legends Professional League Summer is the second half of the 2017 season of LPL, the summer split will lead into Worlds the pressure on the teams is mounting as they all would want a chance on the Summoners cup.
The teams that will be participating in the Summer season is the top 5 teams from each group and the two winners of the promotion tournament.
The summer split of 2017 is divided into four stages.
The promotion tournament which pits the four bottom teams of the LPL against the top two of the LSPL where they all will fight for the three spots that are up for grabs in the LPL. The promotion tournament is structured to make sure that one of the LPL teams in the promotion tournament will lose their spot. The second stage is the regular season where the teams are divided into two groups and the third stage is the playoffs and the final stage, that is exclusive to the summer season is the Regional finals.
There are three Chinese seeds for worlds. They are distributed to the winner of the Summer Playoffs winner, the team with the most championship points and the last seed goes to the winner of the Regional Finals.
The league boasts a ¥3,500,000 (CNY) total prize pool.
This season of LPL will premiere franchising, meaning that no teams will be relegated at the end of the split, however they will be expanding the league for the 2018 Spring split.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Promotion
The promotion tournament is split into two brackets.
All matches are Best-of-five
One team out of Bracket 1 qualifies and two teams from Bracket 2 qualifies.
Regular season
All matches are best-of-three.
The teams are split into two groups of 6 and they each play out a double round robin within the groups.
In between the two round robins the teams will play a single round robin against the teams in the other group.
Top 4 out of each group qualify for the playoffs and the.
Playoffs
Single elimination bracket with the group winners seeded into the semis, the second place of each group in the quarters and the third place teams out of each group getting a 1 game lead in the first round.
